    smooth edges

    Lauramodlin
Hello. I am trying to create a design which is basically two different shaped triangles put together. I cannot figure out how to make the triangles other than create a rectangle and cutting it. But when I do that the edge I cut is jagged.

Any ideas on how to smooth the edges or a better way to create oddly-shaped triangles?

      Thanks,

I would use the pen tool to create the triangles. Make sure you have the
'Edge' set to Anti-Alias. That applies to a modified rectangle as well.

If you're not happy with the shape when completed it's very easy to modify
using the 'Subselect Tool' (white arrow). Just click on one of the anchor
points to select it and use the keyboard arrow keys to move it to where you
          want.

You could also use the Polygon shape and set the number off sides to 3.

Or the Smart Polygon, using the bottom left yellow adjustment to alter the
          number of sides.

In all cases you want the Edge set to Anti-Alias or even Feather.

After re-reading your post, (it's early here) You don't need to cut your
rectangle to create a triangle. Just ungoup the Rectangle (Modify + Ungroup)
or (Ctrl+Shift+G) and select one of the corners with the subselect tool and
            delete it.

              Peter,

Thanks for responding. I did the rectangle/ungroup/subselect and it created the shape I wanted (yay) but it still has the jagged edge (with anti-alias.) Any thoughts?

              Thanks again.

Hi, you could try various levels of Feathering, start low 1 or 2 and see if
                that helps?

                  Laura,

Along with Peters suggestions, you can also select the Polygon tool and
select 3 sides from the Properties panel.
The Smart Polygon Tool is also fun to play with...

                    Make the angles 45 degrees.
