I wanted to update to Illustrator and InDesign CS3, so I downloaded them separately.  Then I thought I would be charged twice, so I sent both programs to my trash.  When I tried to download Creative Suite 3 Standard design, it said I had already downloaded Illustrator, InDesign & Photoshop.  What can I do?

download the product that matches your serial number.  ie, if your serial number is for design std, dl the design std installation files; your serial number will not work with the individual programs contains in the design std suite.
