why don't lens profiles show up in drop down lightroom menu?

    fotochop

LR4 on a Retina IMac, I have tons of lens profiles installed on my hard drive but only a handful of them show up as available in the LR drop down lens correction menu.   Any insight?

          Just some thoughts.

          a. Lens profiles are specific to Camera body, Lens and file type. (i.e. Raw, tiff, jpeg, so if you have a tiff, jpeg file selected a lens profile designed for a raw file will not display for selection)

          b. Lens profiles created by Adobe are installed by the Lightroom / ACR installation package to the default location.

          c. Other third profiles and profiles created by users have to be installed in a specific location of "user folders" for them to be displayed in the lens profile selector.

See the info below for Lens and Camera profile locations.

Your custom Camera Raw & Lens Profiles should be installed to the User folders…

Lightroom 4 no longer uses the shared ProgramData (Windows) / Application Support (Mac) folders for Camera or Lens Profiles. Instead, it stores the built-in profiles with its program files.

When you create camera or lens profiles, they must be stored in the user locations listed below. If you previously stored custom profiles in other locations, you’ll need to move them to these user folders, otherwise Lightroom won’t be able to find them.

          Windows Vista or 7—C: \ Users \ [your username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ CameraRaw \ CameraProfiles \

          Mac—Macintosh HD / Users / [your username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / CameraRaw / CameraProfiles /

For the lens profiles, substitute the LensProfiles folder for the CameraProfiles folder.

The camera and lens profile file extensions are:

.dcpr—camera profile recipe file used for creating/editing a profile in the DNG Profile Editor

          .dcp—camera profile

          .lcp—lens profile

The info in the comment by DdeGannes works for dcp files, but for some reason not for dcpr files. It seems that LR 6.0 DOES NOT recognize the latter.

Context:  I upgraded from LR3 to LR6, and wanted to create new Canon camera profiles.  The only file extension that is available when saving the profiles -  created in the DNG Profile Editor - is dcpr. Which does not transfer over to LR 6, despite following the new path.

Alas Adobe is closed for the weekend (well to us anyway).

            But any ideas here ?

You are saving a DNG Recipe file (DCPR). Use Export and save the camera profile to the User Camera Profile folder.

              Windows—C: \ Users \ [your username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ CameraRaw \ CameraProfiles \

              Mac—Macintosh HD / Users / [your username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / CameraRaw / CameraProfiles /
