You would need to write your own validation and format scripts to achieve that.

Yes, that's it. Now click OK and exit the Form Edit mode and enter some text into the field. You'll see that the periods are added automatically as you type.

Just keep in this mind that this will not enforce that a valid date is entered... So you can enter 72.94.9012 and it will be accepted...
