Lightroom cannot use the catalog named xxxxxxxx because it is not writable and cannot be opened
This usually means that you don't have write permission to the folder that contains this backup catalog file.
I couldn't open my backups because the zip files the new LR creates weren't recognized by my decompressing software. I'm sure you've already ascertained that the files are unzipped but if you haven't you might need to check and, if needed, get some new unzipping software.
Thank you for your reply.
It was not a problem of permission
It was a problem with the backup file being zipped.
So aren't I the guy you should be addressing now and not DJ?
Thanks for coming up with the right answer.
I am new to PS LR CC and the community support model.
I follow instructions marking your answer as correct. Then I thought I would let what the right solution was.
By the way I am a Danish photographer, living in Hong Kong
I have another one for you. Why is LR and PS so slow that when editing it often comes to a standstill where the programs are not responding. At times LR screen turns milky white (not responding) or begins to flicker between other open programs. I use a Thinkpad W701 with 16GB of RAM and SSD. I reinstalled Windows, took the PC to the repair shop thinking that there is a hardware problem but to no avail.
