    custom character in a font?

    lmaclanphere Level 1

is there a way to get a custom made character to substitute in to a font when using AE?

i.e. I have a slightly altered "N" and I want it to occur every time I hit N on the keyboard, instead of the standard N

am on OSX--maybe this is not an AE issue, but a Font Book issue?

      thx very much

This is neither. Fonts are closed containers. If you want to modify them, you need specific font design software like FontLab and even then there are limitations. A font could simply be protected or its copyright forbid it and OpenType fonts that support all 15000+ Unicode glyphs may have complex dependencies inside for glyph substitution or other formatting "tricks". Therefore you would have to derive your own font variant from whatever initial font and install it as a separate font.

            thank you for the response--

I actually did start playing with fontlab today at work--seemed like I had it almost--but kept getting warnings about installing duplicate font, and then not working... will keep at it
