Pop-Up Menu URLs Limited to 55 Characters??

    dgrwebster
When I create or edit up a Pop-up menu my URLs can only be 55 characters long? I don't see any settings to adjust this. I have a lot of them and don't want to have to hand-code them in Drreamweaver because the base design will change alot...Any ideas? Thanks

Bottom line: FW and DW menu systems are crap. Use something better:

Firworks manuals say that URLs can be up to 255 characters, so what is going on in the Pop-up menu creator?

Open the URL panel (Window > URL). Click on the add URL to the Library
icon at the bottom of the panel (next to the garbage can). That will
open the Add URL dialog box. Type in your URL and then click OK to save
it. The URL will be available in the Link box on the Property inspector
whenever you select a slice or hotshot.

                Linda:
Thank you for your reply. I have been able to enter these longer URLs in he URL panel, however I see no way to use the URL panel when in the Pop-up menu creator. I don't seem to be able to drag a URL from the panel or export it or to have any correspondence between these two windows. So far I'm reduced to editing the code in Dreamweaver and I have dozens of links. As soon as my client wants to change the design, I'll have to create a new htm file from Fireworks and create these longer links all over again....:-<

Please, please, please, don't use these pop-up menus. As darrel says, they
                  are awful (paraphrase).

Though I've designed web pages for years, I have never used the pop-up menus before. The client is insisting on changing from clicking on buttons that open separate htm pages with their many links, to having one index page with pop-up menus. I am not wedded to Fireworks' version of pop-ups, but popups are what they want.
Can you recommend other software (hopefully free or low cost). I noticed the Pop-up Magic but don't even see mention of URLs on the ad site. I am reluctant to spend much without a strong recommendation.
                    Thanks

Sorry - I am not sure what you mean by this.

                        > I am reluctant to spend much without a strong recommendation.

I want to give it the strongest possible recommendation. I use it on most
of my sites. There are others around here and on the DW forums who would
concur. In addition, you should look at the links posted by darrel and read
                        the commentary there....

I'm not sure what you mean about "mention of URLs on the ad site". But
I have used every PVII menu product there is at one time or another.

PopMenuMagic and TabMenuMagic are worth every penny, and then some.
The amount of time you'll save on the first site you use one of these
systems for will more than pay for the purchase.

I found the answer to the 55 char problem - it's a bug that was fixed in the Fireworks 4.02 update. There is no mention of this bug on the site anywhere, but the update fixed it. To get it, go to their update site:

It's a better plan (particularly if you are using FW4) to just never use
                                these menus.
