I'm moving your question to the InDesign EPUB forum.
Please tell us exactly which version of InDesign you are using (look at About InDesign under the InDesign menu (Mac) or the Help menu (Windows).
There have been a lot of changes to the menus in different versions.
That's how lost I am, I couldn't even find the EPUB forum!
I have the latest version (I hope, as I pay a monthly fee for it). Adobe InDesign CC, 2014 Release.
I'm totally lost, the whole thing is unreadable, and I can't find where to even start to fix it. And I love Lynda.com generally, but I wish they would start a course from the beginning and help just showing how to set things up for an EPUB from the beginning.
Thanks Steve. I use this in Windows.
Is this for reflowable or fixed layout? How are you reading the EPUB?
I need it to be a fixed layout as it is a book of comics. (not a comic strip, but individual comics)
I'm reading it in Adobe Digital Editions.
There is no need for the articles panel for FXL EPUB.
Make sure you're using the most up to date version of ADE. Even at that, the results can be a bit off. Try iBooks if you're on Mac or Readium for Chrome.
I did just download the most recent version, but I'll try Readium and see if that helps.
So the articles function is in an old version?
It’s really more for reflowable for reading order. And in case I didn’t mention this, you must choose Fixed layout EPUB when you export.
It actually sounds like you chose reflowable.
Believe it or not, I am choosing Fixed Layout Export.
I keep reading all this stuff on the web about creating these books on Word (blasphemy!) and I wanted to do it in InDesign in case these books did end up being printed. And it seemed counter intuitive to create it in a program that generally creates so much bloat. But I have no idea what I could be doing so wrong. I fear that I will have to start with a clean slate and create a few pages and see whether I get that looking right and then go back to my 70 page document and bring things in a page at a time.
Any other settings once I get into the setting section? (after I give it a file name)
Thanks for your patience.
Can you show us screenshots of what you're doing? Have you checked Readium or iBooks?
This is an incredibly straightforward process and should just work for the most part.
OMG, what a difference! It works in Readium. I wonder what is wrong with the Adobe program. If I can see it in Readium, does that mean that It will publish okay?
My guess is you’re using ADE 3.x. Download and install version 4.
I'm sorry, I was sure I had the up to date version. Not only have I wasted your time, I've farted about with this all week! (well, not eight hours a day, but still).
Thank you for being kind about it.
At least we got to the bottom of it. Have fun!
There are few issues with the updates of ADE expected is to check in the ibooks and Readium. If its seems good there, this is how it is rendered in most of the browsers.
