I work with Premiere and want to learn AE, and have some basic questions. I would like to work with lots of clips of 2 minutes and less.
1. Can I import clips, add effects, do basic editing all in AE without going into PP? Is there a reason to not use this workflow?
2. Is there some website dedicated to showing video effects that can be created in AE? I would like to get inspiration for some of what can be done specifically in AE.
3. What are the limitations of working in AE? In other words, what area(s) does it not work well with? Why use Cinema 4D or some other program if those types of effects can also be done in AE?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can to basic editing in After Effects, but it is VERY inconvenient since you don't have real time playback and in the timeline each clip is placed in a separate layer (i.e. one video is placed below the next one).
Hence, it is better to do the editing in Premiere and then bring individual clips to AE to add the effects.
I also recommend this (paid) training by Eran Stern which shows how to working with both Premiere Pro and AE and what to do best in which application.
Compared to "real" 3D applications like Cinema 4D, the main difference is that AE does not support real 3D geometry, but essentially only "2D postcards" in 3D space (plus some little extras like extruded text).
