I have been using InDesign CS5.5. for three years as editor of a club magazine with no problems. I have been asked to produce .pdfs from earlier magazines created by my predecessor who used version 4. He only gave me CDs of the magazines with the .indd files on them and when I use my V5.5 software to export the files to .pdfs the pictures are low resolution. I notice that the size of the .pdf files are considerably smaller than those exported from V5.5. I cannot seem to find a solution. Can anybody help please?
You need to make sure all links are present and up to date.
You didn't say whether the linked images were also on the CD. Images have to be found, relinked, and updated to export correctly. Indesign only embeds a thumbnail to keep the file size manageable.
Open the links palette and try to find one of the images by name. There is a good chance they can all be located together on that CD or other archived storage and you can "relink" them at the same time.
The files should be copied to the local harddrive first.
