I have LR 6.1 (standalone) and I want to create a smart collection to select those pictures which are not in (stardard) collections. As I did not find a better way, I created a smart collection where I require that the collection name of the picture does not begin with "A", "B", etc...
This works as long as the collection names are 1 word long. I am puzzled by this behavior. Is this a bug? Is there another way to achieve what I want?
[It can take a while for someone who knows the answer to read your posts.]
The operator "starts with" is buggy. The criterion "Collection starts with a" will match any collection whose name contains a word that starts with "a". E.g. it will match "A big red pony", "That is a read pony", "Ponies are large animals". Adobe has acknowledged this bug four years ago in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom: Text filtering problems with "Starts With". You could add your vote and opinion to that thread in the vain hope that Adobe might fix it before the next ice age.
Meanwhile, to find all photos that are not in collections, you could use these rules:
Match none of the following rules
Collection contains a b c ... z 0 1 .. 9
Thank you for the answer. I hope they will sort it out...
