I wrote an in depth tutorial today entitled "
Exporting and Converting an Autodesk Maya 8.5 or 2008 Scene to
the Director .W3D File Format".
After doing a lot of research on the internet and coming up
with blanks to answer my problem, I decided to put the pieces
together and do some testing. I also noticed a lot of others asking
the same question on other forums and blogs. More often then not,
their questions related to my topic went unanswered or unsolved. I
hope the tutorial is useful to someone.
On the export, no. But if you look at step 6, the FBX
2006.11.2 I installed for Max 8 has an option to switch incoming
world coordinates between Y and Z, or vice versa. So a possible
option could be to simply export it as a .FBX and then re-import
it. You will need to install the appropriate FBX plug-in though.
For Max 8.0 use 2006.11.2, any later versions go with 2009.3.
