Placing marker stops audio playback in CC 2015

I was using CC (not 2014) before upgrading to 2015. I'm on Windows 7.

Because I frequently place markers while listening to the audio, to pinpoint specific beats and moments, my workflow has greatly slowed down due to the fact that placing a marker causes the audio to stop playing.

I press (.) to start audio playback (which is much slower to start in CC 2015 for some reason, and then I attempt to press (*) multiple times during audio playback to set markers to certain beats of the music. When I press (*) the first time, the audio stops, but the cursor continues to scroll through the timeline.

Any way I can fix this or get around it somehow? It's absolutely crucial that I am able to place markers while audio is playing.
