The Lightroom folder is normally found in Pictures by default. It contains the catalog and previews. Drag or copy the entire folder to your external drive. Then open the folder on the ehd and double-click on the named catalog with the extension .lrcat to launch it from the new location.
Thank you,My new HP Envy pc "C" drive fills up if there are any Lightroom files in it at all. So do you think that, rather than copy...if I cut and paste into EHD that would remove any LR data from C drive ?
By the way, in trying to overcome this issue I discovered that LR presets are also stored automatically in C drive and those also caused it to fill up, so I know that I also need to change that in preferences. I really appreciate your help!Best regards,Jim F.
I would copy first and test and then send the original to the recycle bin.
The folder containing presets is stored in AppData but that has lots of other files needed by the application. creating new user presets doesn't take up much file space; so I would leave things where they are.
Thanks Jon,This has been a painful few days since I bought the new PC. I have been watching the C drive usage as I make each change in LR status. With LR initial download everything is fine about 45 GB of space left on the drive, After importing my files ( around 40, 000 ) into catalog C drive is full.
Yesterday, leaving original catalog in C drive, I created a new catalog in EHD and imported photos into that, but C drive almost filled up also. Dont understand that at all ,but thats why I was hoping I couldsomehow move the catalog from C to EHD Best regards,Jim F.
