First, this is not a Flex Builder question, so it should go in the Flex General Discussion forum, not here.
Second, Here is a hint for searching the docs: For some reason Adobe wraps the google search terms in quotes, making it an exact phrase match. So when I search from here: http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?href=Part2_De vApps.html
using the words: pass data to Flex
I get no hits. Removing the quotes from the search terms on the google result page returns several good hits, prominent is this one:

Yeah, "teach a man to fish" yada, yada... Actually, I think I'll post that search tip in a separate topic.
By the way, except for a warm fuzzy feeling, getting a post marked as an answer doesn't benefit me in any way.
If you like, you can repackage any info you get into a more helpful format, and mark that as an answer. The important thing about "answers" is that it helps others.
