I would suggest signing-out of Creative Cloud and completely quitting the application.
Use the link for Lightroom_6_LS11.exe
If that installs OK launch LR and go to Help >> Updates to bring up to 6.1

I had signed out and completely quit... but I was using a patch update link I'd found on another thread. I'm now downloading the full 6_LS11.exe link that was in that thread and I'll try that next and see what happens.

Sadly, although everything worked (i.e. the install worked) I'm still left with LR6.0 rather than LR6.1 - and the updates option is still greyed out...
Any other ideas?

I understand now that the CC features (like dehaze) aren't available in LR 6.1 anyway, so I'll not worry too much at the moment, though anyone who has any other ideas, I'm all ears!
Did you try updating from the Help Menu???
Sadly yes!! The update option is permanently greyed out - and the 'about' menu option shows I'm still on 6.0
Okay I would ensure you have your serial number written down and then Uninstall Lightroom and install from Adobe.com.. Just go to Buy Now and d/load the trial and add your serial number.
