Just out of curiosity... what kind of project are you working on? Is it an interview, a narrative, or something else?
Community Manager, Mobile Video for Creative Cloud
I have reporters shooting video packages for everything from breaking news to profiles and narratives. We've been using iMovie previously, but have since converted to Premiere Pro on our editing stations. I like the functionality Premiere Clip, but am struggling with the inability to strip the audio and move it around under other clips in the timeline. I read the section on j and l cuts on the adobe blog, but haven't found it extraordinarily useful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried sending your Premiere Clip projects to Premiere Pro? You can assemble the edit of the news stories out in the field with Premiere Clip, muting or adjusting audio as you need on a per-clip basis. For videos where you want to do more with L cuts and J cuts, hit "Edit in Premiere Pro." There you can unlink the audio & video tracks.
These blog posts go over the audio editing options in Premiere Clip.
