Click the Windows start button and in the search box type:
%ProgramData% and hit return; then navigate the following path
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Lightroom\Lightroom 5.0 Registration.lrreg
Inside the Lightroom folder right-click on Lightroom 5.0 Registration.lrreg and choose open.
Choose “Select a program from a list of installed programs” then click OK
Select Notepad or click the Browse button to find Notepad
When the registration file opens in Notepad you will see your serial number.
Launch Finder and click the Go menu whilst holding down the Opt(alt) key and choose Library
(n.b. the library is hidden until you press alt) then go to:
/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Lightroom 5.0 Registration
Click choose application and select text editor then click open.
Unfortunately this does not solve my problem. When following those actions I see that I only have "Lightroom 2.0 Registration" in that folder. I purchased Lightroom 5, my lost serial number, as an update. Is there another way I can find my serial number?
If you registered it, it should show up in your account. My ancient version of PSE does (registered many years ago... pre 2010...), along with every version of LR since then.
In the same folder as your LR2 registration file should be your LR5 registration file: I know as I have upgraded since LR3, and they are all in there, with the obvious exception of LR6.
I did that too and it's not showing up. My other two programs are but not LR5.
Also, are you looking on the computer that LR5 was originally installed on? And you haven't done anything like a re-build, wiped your HD or anything?
Can I ask why you are re-installing?
That's strange because I've had my account for a long time. Perhaps I have the LR5 account under some other name then and that's the one you're seeing?
I haven't rebuild my HD or anything. And I use LR5 on this computer just fine.
And I'm installing the LR on a different computer. I have more than one in the office that I use to do my editing.
It might be just when you registered to use the forum then.
For LR to work the reg file MUST be on the PC in that specific folder. If it's not, it will ask you to register the software.
I suggest doing a system wide search for .lrreg files and make sure you can see hidden files by changing system settings.
The registration file (.lrreg) has to be there. If you're not finding it and you are using Windows, it's possible that you need to change your file options to show the hidden files.
I tried to search in spotlight for .lrreg files but nothing came up. Is there a different way to do this?
It might be hidden. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Macs and how to show hidden files.
