Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Will Not Launch New Projects or Load Existing Projects

Adobe Premiere Elements 8 loads & welcome screen appears.  Click on "New Project" and then select Project type.  After clicking OK, Premiere loads with a blank window with no features or options.  This also occurs when trying to load existing projects.  Sometimes, Premiere will not even make it past the welcome screen after clicking "New Project" or "Open Project".

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with Windows 7

      Intel Core i7CPU 2.80GHz with 8GB Ram (3.96GB usable).

I have used this program for a few years with no issues.  This problem started to occur intermittently.  However, now it happens every time.  I also use Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and Adobe Audition 3 and both work fine.

      Help!!  Thank you so much.

Premiere Elements 8 on Windows 7 (assumed 64 bit)

Usual drill questions for Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 users....

Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update of 8?

Adobe - Premiere Elements : For Windows : Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.1 update

Are you working with the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer features disable?

See Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/General and Elements Organizer workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalzyer Options.

Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?

Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewalls disabled?

Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed and are you running the programs as administrator?

          Introductory Troubleshooting

          1. Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 8.0 Folder in which it exists.

          Local Disk C

          Premiere Elements

and in the 8.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the path given.

          2. It may come to uninstall/reinstall according to the following scheme

          a. uninstall the program the usual Control Panel way

          b. do a free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts)

          CCleaner - Download

          c. reinstall the program with antivirus and firewalls disabled.

          d. download and install the 8.0.1 Update after a successful install of 8.0.

Please review and consider. The details in your reply should give us perspective on what next in the troubleshooting.

          Thank you.
