Can't finish installation of Adobe Flash on Windows XP

I've been getting the installation package from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and each time I've tried it I get a 1.1 megabyte download file instead of the 17.5 advertised on the site after refusing the Mcafee offer. Not minding that, I tried to install it multiple times but each time, it gets to exactly 50% on the downloading screen and the installation stops giving me something like this:

I'm using Firefox 38.05 on Windows XP SP3 and for the most part it doesn't really need adobe flash anymore but some of my other applications do require it. Is there an alternative method I could use?

Use the offline installers listed at https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#main-pars_text_4 (under the heading Still having problems?).

Strange how that never popped out at me until I look for an offline installer myself. Thanks a lot, that did the trick.
