What version of Lightroom?
Raw support for the 5Ds was first included in LR6.0.
Hi - I am currently working in LR 5. Is that the problem - and in that case i need to up grade?
You can either upgrade to LR6, or you can download and use the free Adobe DNG Converter (9.1), which you would then use to convert your 5Ds raw files to DNG, which LR5 will be able to import.
Upgrading to LR 6 means one of two choices:
Pay for an upgrade serial number for US $80, or subscribe to the Photography Plan which includes the latest versions of PS CC and LR CC for US $10/month as long as you keep paying.
The difference of getting LR CC over LR 6 is that new features will be added to LR CC as they come out, whereas LR 6 purchasers will need to wait until LR 7 to see the same features. So far LR CC 2015.1 has a new Dehaze tool that LR 6.1 does not.
I just signed up for the Lightroom CC and photoshop CC combo deal on the cloud a couple of days ago and when I tried to upload my first batch of RAW files Lightroom wouldn't recognize them, neither would my old version of Lightroom (4.1) and neither would iPhoto...it's like the upload messed with my mac's ability to read RAW files. I downloaded the DNG converter everyone is talking about but apart from that have NO idea how to use it and nothing has changed. HELP!!!
The common problem is that you’ve used Nikon software that came with your previous camera, instead of using software that came with your newest camera, and the obsolete software has corrupted the newer camera files making them unrecognizable to non-Nikon software.
A way to test if this is the case is to transfer raw photos from the card to the computer without any Nikon software, either OS utilities or LR, itself.
I also just bought my new EOS 5DS and when trying to get the images into LR on my MBP, it says the preview is not available meaning it doesn't recognize my raw files.
I am on Adobe CC and Lightroom seems to have updated 15 days ago to 5.7.1 and Adobe Camera Raw is 8.7.1
The DNG converter doesn't recognize them as well.
Thanks for your help.
LR 5.7.1 came out in December. The 5Ds is newer than that and was first supported by LR 6 or LR CC 2015 back in April.
If you’re on the CC Photography Plan for US $10/month and have LR CC installed, that should be new enough.
I actually continued using an old version of LR without paying attention because it was in the docs and LR CC2015 was on the computer but not yet used.
Now it works.
I have another question though:
Can I do something to be able to read those EOS 5DS files on my old Mac Pro that is limited to OS 10.8 and won't accept any new version on LR after 5.7.1 ?
I am now using the Adobe DNG Converter and it is working ok.
