Are you shooting RAW + JPG on your Nikon? If so LR might be missing the RAW files?
As to exports only being in JPG and a much lower MB size that is a setting in the Export dialog window. You can change all of that.
I am shooting in RAW only.
I am more concerned with the import than the export (for now)
To tell you the truth, I don't see why it matters what size is reported in Lightroom, because your image hasn't changed. Every single pixel captured by the camera is still there, unchanged by Lightroom.
So, if the D700 raws are 4,256 x 2,832 as captured by the camera, they remain 4,256 x 2,832 in Lightroom.
LR has never changed file size on import, that I know of, unless you have it set to convert the files to DNG. It seems you are shooting RAW Compressed in 12bit.
Here is a list of the file sizes the D700 captures.
Considering 2GB of storage capacity:
NEF (RAW) - Uncompressed - 12-bit - 18.8MB - 100 pictures
NEF (RAW) - Uncompressed - 14-bit - 24.7MB - 77 pictures
NEF (RAW) - Lossless compressed - 12-bit - 13.3MB - 100 pictures
NEF (RAW) - Lossless compressed - 14-bit - 16.3MB - 77 pictures
NEF (RAW) - Compressed - 12-bit - 11.0MB - 138 pictures
NEF (RAW) - Compressed - 14-bit - 13.8MB - 114 pictures
TIFF (RGB) - Large - 35.9MB - 53 pictures
TIFF (RGB) - Standard - 20.7MB - 95 pictures
TIFF (RGB) - Small - 10.0MB - 211 pictures
JPEG Fine - Large - 5.7MB - 279 pictures
JPEG Fine - Standard - 3.2MB - 496 pictures
JPEG Fine - Small - 1.4MB - 1000 pictures
JPEG Normal - Large - 2.9MB - 548 pictures
JPEG Normal - Standard - 1.6MB - 976 pictures
JPEG Normal - Small - 0.7MB - 2000 pictures
JPEG Basic - Large - 1.4MB - 1000 pictures
JPEG Basic - Standard - 0.8MB - 1800 pictures
JPEG Basic - Small - 0.4MB - 3900 pictures
I'd check your camera settings first.
Ok so I am a bit confused. I import on to a file on my desk top, the NEF files in there show 4.7 - 5.3MB.
Image quality on my camera is RAW.
Shouldn't my NEF files be circa 11-13.3MB?
Take some picture and then COPY them from the card to a folder on your drive and check the size. Do not use LR to Import them. Use the OS File Manager program to COPY them to your system. Then check the size.
Again check the camera settings as to file recording size, quality.
Yes you are correct it is in camera. Thank you so much!
Now to figure camera setting out!
