I am trying to add part of a graphic to a photo that is in a box. The graphic is larger than my photo, so I only want to use part of it. My teacher used something along the lines of copy, paste in place, cut, paste into, but I cannot remember how he did it. Any suggestions?
You can only put one object into a single frame, so you'll need to place both the photo and the graphic as separate objects and position them as you like. You can crop either one by moving the frame edges. You can alos group them so they behave as a single unit, and you can use Paste Into to move that group into a third frame that can be used to crop the entire group.
I would do it in Illustrator:
Place image and graphic into an AI file, save this and use the AI file in InDesign. This would create one single object which would not be dislocated to each other by accident.
