There are probably still some issues with the AMD driver: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html#
Temporary fix if you're on Windows x64: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-amd-graphics-cards.html
It's eventually best to turn off the GPU acceleration in LR.
I have a similar issue, but cannot turn of GPU acceleration: when I uncheck the 'Gpu acceleration' box, LightRoom simply freezes.
Is there a config file or registry setting I can edit to turn of GPU acceleration?
I have the same problem as @steind11355947. I am running Catalyst 15.7 on AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
For those googling basically:
- Navigate to %appdata%\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs
- and change (in my case) line 958 at the very bottom of the file
- useAutoBahn = true,
- to the following
- useAutoBahn = false,
- Save and close
- Launch Lightroom 6
i tried six different Catalysts and came to the conclusion that every tested version before 15.7 (final) works with gpu-acceleration. The latest catalyst 15.6 beta (link via google) installed the driver 14.502.1014.1001 and it feels faster in LR-Dev-Mode than previous releases.
--> Note: you have to uninstall old driver before OR switch to an older version by hand before installing outdated versions of catalyst
when will there be a right fix? I wan't to use the GPU acceleration with the newest drivers.
There's been no official statement from Adobe, so we don't know. It could be any time soon, it could be a long time, it depends on what they need to do to fix the several issues that people are complaining about. I'd like to think that they are aware of all the issues, enough heat has been created by all the posts. I am optimistic that it will be in the next dot release, which is why I think they brought out a .x.1 release a few days ago as opposed to a dot release.
Thanks for the replies.
Lightroom despite reporting the GPU passes will freeze with the GPU enable. If the GPU is disable I can use Lightroom for hours ... even days (I activate desktop sleep mode leaving Lightroom active) and without any problems.
The latest Lightroom CC update 2015.1.1 and Catalyst latest revision 15.200.1062.0 exhibit the same problem in Lightroom.
Photoshop CC however does not have any problems Lightroom has, with GPU enable..

your approach is at least hopeful, since it freezes using the 'graphics' checkbox when I click in Preferences.
My question: How DO you edit the agprefs file? Wordpad doesn't work on it...
How DO you edit the agprefs file? Wordpad doesn't work on it...
In File Explorer, right-click "Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs" and select Open With > Choose Default Program. Then selected either Notepad or Wordpad.
as I mentioned, Wordpad was my first choice. As you suggest, now I tried Notepad.
Both give the same result: Blank white screen.
I tried selecting text, etc. but nothing is visible.
Perhaps I've found the wrong file?
File name: Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs
'Properties' show Size as 0 bytes in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\Resources\Installer\Preferences.
I admit to inexperience with this level of control, but the goofy UI has the same bug I'm trying to avoid.
'Deadly Embrace' comes to mind...
Thanks for the response,
You're looking in the wrong folder. It's in:
Sir, you are the finest kind! That worked like a charm and I'm back on track in my project.
Thank you. I hope you aren't tired from carrying a 71 year old bozo who cannot follow directions...
If you are ever in Valparaiso, Indiana, I'll buy you a beer or two.
Glad you got it working. We all space out now and then reading picayune technical directions.
