Am I out of luck trying to install InDesign CS4?

I bought CS4 Design Premium a number of years ago and have successfully migrated it to successive machines. It was most lately installed on a Sony Vaio running a 64-bit version of Windows 7. Unfortunately, the machine died before I could deactivate the license.

After nearly 4 hours (2.5 on the phone, 1.5 in chat), I believe I was able to get someone at Adobe to deactivate the license. Even so, I cannot get the setup to run on a new Toshiba that is running a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1.

Is it possible? If so, what do I have to do?

I really hate the idea of being stuck with this. I'd also hate if my only option is to buy another laptop and install Windows 7 on it, just for the sole purpose of running this ridiculously expense software...

Thanks for any thoughts, direction, and/or suggestions.
