The answer is to have a back up. A corrupt file is just that and may not be recoverable at all.
That said, try to open it as a copy or on a different computer.
Oh dear - this is a really important document :-( i feel sick!
Adobe online help haven't been able to do anything. I just need something i can try - the online adobe guy tried and it was corrupt and i have tried opening it as a copy. Any other ideas?
If ID is crashing on launch the recovery data is probably corrupt. See Replace Your Preferences for the location of the InDesign SavedData file on your OS, and the recovery file will be in the same (hidden) folder.
Empty the recovery folder and ID should launch normally, and then you may be able to open the last saved version of your file. If you can, see Remove minor corruption by exporting for how to clean it and create a new version for further editing.
I have tried both of these - no luck :-( I am not able to export as an .idml fuile as it crashes before i even have a chance too.... man i would pay big dollars to get this fixed as it is around 40 hours of work.
I have email the Markzware place but i have had no reply. Do you know of any other ways i can get this fixed?
Did you empty the recovery folder, as instructed? The prefs link was just to show you where to look to find the folder.
Yep - done that - still no go. Thanks for your advice though. Any other tricks up your sleeve?
Anyone that can fix this for me i will give $100 to!
What happened when you emptied the folder? Did ID launch when you clicked it's shortcut?
If not, did you get any error message? What's the OS?
