You can run Lr 3 & Lr 6 together on system but the same catalog would not work across for you.
As the catalog from Lr3 would get upgraded to Lr6 would not be of any use for Lr3.
I want to use LR3 for my elder fotos on.
You are just making problems for yourself keeping some photos in LR 3 and others in LR 6, plus of course, you would need to keep both softwares installed on your computer. I see no benefit to this. I see lots of benefit having the photos all in the LR 6 catalog, and keeping one software on your computer.
Are there no changes in my elder photos by updating my LR3 catalog ? I thought, in LR6 is a different process in the program?
When you upgrade a LR3 catalog to LR6, none of you edits change. The older process is still used by the new LR6 catalog (unless you specifically tell LR6 to begin using the newer process, not recommended unless you intend to re-edit the photo).
So I will upgrade ... Thank you very much Have good time
I just did the same thing. My old iMac died that I was using LR3 with and so I bought a new computer + LR6.
I just installed it and so far, I don't know how to access ANY of my edited work that I did in LR3.
I opened a new catalogue and then chose the latest LR3 catalogue that I have a back-up of but then...now what?
LR6 is still indicating that I have no photographs.
I tried importing ONE from my folder with all my CR2 files to test to see if it was edited, and it was NOT.
How do I access all my edited work?
I feel like an idiot. All I know is that my RAW photos are on my external hard drive and I now want to use LR6 to see my edited work....and I am clueless.
Open Lightroom 6 and then use the Lightroom command File->OpenCatalog and select your Lightroom 3 catalog.
Importing photos is completely the wrong thing to do.
