    How to input tables of various widths using XML

    urbanl28974291

      I am loading a document with multiple tables using XML.

      A simplified version of the XML is:

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

      <Root>

      <TableInfo>

      <DataTable xmlns:aid="http://ns.adobe.com/AdobeInDesign/4.0/" aid:table="table" aid:trows="2" aid:tcols="12">

      <cell aid:table="cell" >TABLE 1</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell">Sample Size</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Excellent</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Very Good</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Good</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Fair</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Poor</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >6 County Total</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >12,028</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >19.5%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 0.9</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >19.5%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 0.9</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >19.5%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 0.9</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >19.5%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 0.9</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >19.5%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 0.9</cell>

      </DataTable>

      </TableInfo>

      <TableInfo>

      <TableTitle>Have you ever been told by a doctor or other health professional that you had Asthma?</TableTitle>

      <DataTable xmlns:aid="http://ns.adobe.com/AdobeInDesign/4.0/" aid:table="table" aid:trows="2" aid:tcols="6">

      <cell aid:table="cell" >TABLE 2</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell">Sample Size</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Ever had asthma</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" aid:ccols="2">Currently has asthma</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >6 County Total</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >6,926</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >14.4%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 1.3</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >6.7%</cell>

      <cell aid:table="cell" >± 0.9</cell>

      </DataTable>

      <Footer>NOTE: Definitions for the indicators are provided in Appendix D</Footer>

      </TableInfo>

      </Root>

      When I import the XML with the "Clone repeating text elements" checked, my 2nd table has 12 columns instead of 6.

      Is there a way to get the tables looking the way I want them to other than setting up a <AllTheTables>   ... </AllTheTables>  tag over all the tables and put that tag in my text box?

      Thanks!
