There are two separate sort orders to deal with:
- import dialog: sorts the images in the import grid view. The order of the actual import is questionable.
- Library module: grid and film strip, affects the Dev module via the film strip.
The two sort orders are independent.
Sometimes installing new LR updates will change the saved orders on you.
Sometimes the sort order is not maintained when the dev module adds new files. Switching to the Library and back to Dev sometimes corrects the problem.
I really wish Adobe would get these ridiculous gremlins resolved from their world leading software. So what ur saying is that from Import to Library to Dev mode I need to consciously set to Capture Time every time, seems over the top. There's been forum overflow on this subject for as long as I can remember. Do Adobe ever listen?
You end up needing to explicitly choose a sort order in each place. And check to see what they are set to every now and then.
I have all of mine set to "file name", which is the equivalent of "capture time" since my files get renamed to yyyymmdd_nnnn when they are copied off the cards (not by Lightroom).
