You see the files but no thumbnails?
What kind of photos are these? What camera took these photos? What version of Lightroom?

Ok, I have to be specific. It is LR 6.1. The files are from a OMD EM5 both Raw and JPEG. I have imported thousands of these before. I can see the filenames in tiles in the import. Ni thmbnails however. If I doubleclick one one the image becomes visible. However, als then it does not get imported. I reinstalled LR already. I tried logging out, logging in again (why do youhave to login for a standalone copy ?). Nothing changes

Okay, so I guess I'll ask for more details.
Are you using a card reader or a cable directly to the camera? What happens if you try different hardware and try the import that way, does it work then? Can your operating system copy the files to your hard disk, and if so, can you import these photos from the hard disk?

I am doing what I have been doiing for years. I copy the files to a location on my harddrive and import them in the catalog without moving them. The files are there. Both the operating system and LR see them. They are just not imported. The task also appears in LR, but nothing happens even after a few hours.

I have some clue. There were also some movies (.MOV .Mp4) in the directory. After a very long time LR came up with error mesages regarding those files. An unknown error has occured whle reading the video file. Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed. I imported the same videos less than a month ago in anorther subdirrectory and it worked. After deleting the video files I could import the photo's..
