And so I have another problem, again being unable to find the solution anywhere online.
Just recently, for whatever reason this may be, my text cursor is placing itself significantly farther above the rest of the line of text I am working with in the document. Since I can't get a decent Snip of the cursor itself, I got one of what a chunk of text looks like when highlighted. I think it will prove helpful in seeing what I mean regardless:
This problem has left me incapable of adding certain styles to paragraphs and the like. I hope I don't sound rude in asking this question, I'm just very tired today from work...

If it will help anyone else that has blonde moments like me: The text was set to subscript by default...for whatever reason.

You probably clicked the subscript button while nothing was selected, making it the default for new text frames. A simple mistake, but now you know what to look for in the future.
