    Need Layout Help with Dreamweaver!!!

      Hi,
I normally work in Flash, so excuse my simple questions.

I'm designing a jewelry site in DW 8. There will be 3 main categories (bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.) Each category will have at least 6-10 pages. I need a template (not sure if that's really what it would be?) so when I swap out an image with another on the main "bracelets" page, it will show this change on all other pages within that category.

Is nesting an entire web page into a "Layer" equivalent to internet browser suicide?

      Thanks for any help?

A Template is exactly what you need.

I don't work with Layers in Dreamweaver so am not sure about your second question, but what I would do is design each of your main category pages (or, if they are all going to use the basic layout except for the title, just create that one page) and save them/it as a template (File>Save as Template) and designate the areas you want to make editable on that page (Insert>Template Objects>Editabe Region).

Then when you create each new page, you start with the template. You might want to refer to a manual (I use PeachPit's Visual Quickstart Guides for things like this) re creating templates since there are some tricks and things you can't do (usually to do with nesting editable regions within other editable regiopns, which is a no no), but it is pretty simple.

I also tend to create my navigation (and other elements that are constant throughout the site) as Library items, since you can use them in all your different templates and still only have to make updates once to have the change show up throughout all the pages.

          Hope that helps.

Whatever, it's always a bad idea. So, maybe, yes.
