It is not recommended to restore programs from time machine or copy files from a backup disk or previous installation as not all necessary files are restored.

I have exactly the same problem. I get a message saying that I have reached the number of computers Audition can be installed on. Adobe consultant told me to uninstall then reinstall, now I am worse off as it tells me that my original SN is not a real SN. I'll let you know what happens after I blast Adobe today. I see you are using Creative Suite, not Creative Cloud,

Please try installing CS4  from here:

Suites and Programs  CC 2014 | CC | CS6 | CS5.5 | CS5 | CS4 , CS4 Web Standard | CS3

If necessary, you can use the cleaner tool first:

Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

I still had my disc case with the serial number on it. It worked when I loaded the correct number.

I know how frustrating this is.
