Audio Sync 10 seconds off from mpeg2 720x576

    wcn_dave Level 1

I am capturing some old VHS which ends up in a MPEG-PS  PAL 720x576 4:3 25fps file.

I set up a project with the same settings.

      Import the video.

Audio track is about 10 seconds off.

Plays completely fine in VLC though.

It's also completely fine in AVS video editor, Arcsoft's video editor and widows media editor.

Frustrating that PE has to be so fussy about files and often seems to mess them up.

What version of Premiere Elements and what computer operating system involved?

Are you running into audio out of sync when you view/listen to the playback of the "rendered" Timeline content in the Edit area monitor?

What are you using to capture VHS content to a digitized forma? You say it ends of as MPEG2 720 x 576 4:3 @ 25 frames per second...is that interlaced or progressive frame rate?

Please right click the file's thumbnail in Expert workspace/Project Assets, select Properties, and then let us know what is listed for pixel aspect ratio.

Since you say that it "ends up as" that, in what format was it captured. Did you convert the capture somewhere along the line before it got to Premiere Elements?

Let us start here and then consider what next based on the details in your reply.

          Thanks.

            I am running PRE11, Windows 7 Pro 64Bit.

The audio is out of sync when watching rendered clip yes.

I use a VCAP302 to capture the video, I guess I don't really want to have to concern myself too much about the resulting format.

I only looked at aspect and frame rate in order to select a project type that matched.

In AVS I just dragged the video in, and it auto sets the project settings, and all works perfectly.

            Same in Arcsoft.

It seems PRE keeps doing this, if I don't have some perfect standard format up front, I run into all sorts of problems.

I've included the mediainfo output at end of message.

The vcap spits out the file as the mpeg file detailed at end, there's no conversion.

If I want to use the file in PRE, then I have to use AVS to convert to mp4, and then I can use the file ok inside a project.

The PAR in PRE is reported as 1.0940.

Thanks for the good information for troubleshooting. I just need to ask a few more questions to put this together.

What are you bringing into Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit that is resulting with Timeline audio out of sync (even with the rendered Timeline content)? Is it the MPEG2.mpeg that is described in your screenshot or a .mp4 version of the MPEG2.mpeg?

Please also confirm the Premiere Element 11 project preset that has been set for this project - is it

              PAL DV Standard

              or

              PAL/AVCHD/Full HD1080i25?

Please see Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings there for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.

              Thanks.

The mpeg2 is the trouble video.  If I convert the video to another format, using any other tools, then it's fine, it's only when I work with the original video.

What's annoying is that other editors all work fine, it's just PRE that requires me to convert first, which will also result in some loss.

                the project settings are:

                DV Pal

                25.00 fps

                720 * 576

                PAR: D1/DV PAL (1.0940)

I still don't see how PAR would affect the audio sync ;-)
