The main issue with Windows 10 seems to be video drivers not quite working. You can try to disable the GPU in LR using the following procedure but since your lockup is so soon after launch I don’t know as it will help. You might also unplug any USB-attached devices in case one of those is malfunctioning:
Thank you for your prompt reply. Sadly it hasn't worked.
I have unplugged all USB external devices and edited the code as directed.
An error message has appeared: "Unexpected error opening catalogue.
The catalogue could not open due to an unexpected error"
I'm having the same problems as you. I wish Adobe would publish a coherent instruction for resolving this problem that makes Lightroom 6 unusable in Windows 10 for me and many others, apparently.
Since I've upgraded to Windows 10, I've been unable to open Lightroom 6 with either my current or old catalogs. I consistently get the error message: “Unexpected error opening catalog. The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error.”
I'm operating as administrator, my graphics card software is up-do-date, and have the latest updates of LR 6 downloaded. All programs other than Lightroom seem to operating normally on Windows 10.
