This is an InDesign issue -- no connection with Illustrator.

There are already a number of threads discussing this here. One thing that seems to work for some users is to set the number of recent files to be displayed at 0.
Thank you - will definitely try that. Im hoping a fix/update is coming soon from Adobe.
I've got the same problem for CC 2015, after I've done all the possible settings, it's still super slow even when I tried to drag a text box or object...
Until I unplugged the Wacom board and changed to an optical mouse, seems everything backs to normal!
