At the moment I have my Lightroom .lrcat file and all of my images on the same drive.
If I want to move all of my images to a different drive but keep the .lrcat file on the original drive how do I do this?
Is there a way to quickly tell Lightroom my images files have moved without having to go through the whole import business and re-editing of the images?
Any help/advice you can offer would be gratefully received.
As long as you do not change the structure of the folders containing your photos, this is an easy task.
Mark your catalog as "backup on the next exit". (just in case)
Using your OS tools (Finder or Explorer), move/copy the top-most folder of your image folder tree to the new drive.
In LR, go to the Folder Panel in the Library module.
If you do not see the top-most folder in the tree, right-click and "show parent" as many times as needed.
Right-click on the top-most folder (should be marked with "?"), select "find/relocate"; navigate to the new location.
LR will automatically fix the paths of everything under that folder.
Thank you so much for your very prompt reply; I didn't know about the 'show parent' option which really helped in bringing out folder that weren't being shown.
