    Instances vs. collapsing

    VizFX76 Level 1
What is the best choice to optimize memory for large W3D scenes, between using instances of objects and collapsing static elements into one object?
      Best regards

I would use both, depending on the kind of objects in question.

Collapsing objects can be good, particularly if the objects use the same shader, but beyond a certain point you limit director's ability to automatically cull certain models (eg, if some of the collapsed group is offscreen, or beyond the cam's yon).

Instances should also be used wherever possible.

I'd recommend performing and measuring some quick tests with your scene.
