Also keep in mind that CS5 is not supported under Mavericks. You're basically on your own with no support except suggestions we can give. Things may or may not work.
Thank you for your help and suggestion. I followed instructions - did not work crashed again. I have the report, would that help?
Thanks in advance
Thanks, nothing is supported by anything it would seem any more, just a way for them to make you update and pay more money, sadly.
Crash report below if use to anyone figuring it out Means nothing to me!

In future, please put long reports on pastebin.com and provide a link. They make it difficult to navigate the forum.
Please update InDesign to version 7.0.4 (the last patch) and let us know what happens.
Thank you for answering. I did think about linking it (after I posted it) yes will do next time.
Will update and get back. Thanks again
Same crash. Looks to be related to graphics, but I don't know specifically how. Does this happen just with this file, or all files?
Thanks for super fast reply .
It was happening when I was in a new file I created for a client, all going fine then the crash. To test, I opened a new doc and did a test with the same 3mm bleed and crashed again, I have tried with new files and crashes every time.
Was working fine till I did the update prefs thingy.
But it will export when I export PDF and select 'use document bleed' not ideal, but has been a work around.
Although a client did supply me with a new font to use, I use that in suitcase... perhaps remove from my system?
Worth a try, and be sure you have the the latest update for your version of Suitcase.
From a practical point of view, you probably should start adding the bleed allowance as part of document setup and use document bleed instead of setting it custom.
That's what I meant (but you don't have a bleed set in that screen shot). I think I may have confused this with another thread where the crash only happened when a custom bleed was set in the export dialog instead us checking the box to use document bleed settings.
HAHA easily done.
Yes no bleed on that - just opened to demonstrate, but yeah usually set it in there. Thanks for confirming
Lots of bleed problems then.
Ok am having a problem with suitcase (12.1.7) updating. TBH I might just remove it and use Fontbook!
This could also be an OS/Application compatibility glitch. I'm a Windows user, so I have some trouble keeping up with what versions of which programs are tested and supported on which versions of OS X. Once the program "ages out" for the OS it may run, but because Apple is not at all concerned with backward compatibility you start to find some things that no longer work. Just for fun, see if setting the bleed manually in the export makes a difference.
Thanks, I really appreciate your help
Crashed again You are probably right is a compat issue, I updated to Mavericks, on a late 2008 mac (after Skype no longer was supported and stopped working), it is probably struggling like crazy! I keep everything file wise on hard drives and just run programmes on the machine so is clean memory wise. And I upgraded 2gb memory ram stuff to 4 but that is maxed out.
Just looks expensive if I have to upgrade the machine to cope, and the software!
Ok going to remove Suitcase now.... see what happens.
Crash linky here: http://pastebin.com/rHM97cKX
Those crashes are identical to the earlier ones.
Just read through the thread again and you did say it worked when you check the Use Document Bleed box. Has that changed?
How about a brand new single page file with nothing in it?
And if you create and log onto the Mac with a new user account?
Ok will try both these and get back to you
1. Use Document Bleed box. Has that changed? - works fine to PDF (weird)
2. File with nothing in it? - Crashed
3. create and log onto the Mac with a new user account? - WORKED FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool. So now we have something concrete to try. Go back to the original account and rename the two folders that hold the prefs, then copy the same two folders from the new account and put them into the original account.
Ok, what now?
So copy the folders from the new test account to the old broken account? Yes?
What are these folders called and where do I find them?
Go back to Replace Your Preferences to see the paths. Two folders, both in your user library and hidden, one in Preferences and one in Caches. (if you don't know how to access hidden user folders, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later). Rename the InDesign folders in both locations in the broken account. It might be enough to just do that and restart ID, but it's more likely it will work if you replace the folders you just renamed with the ones you can copy from the new account that works.
You should also see Adobe Forums: InDesign crashes at startup and delete the files and folders from John's list that are not in those two folders (topic discusses 5.5, so look for the CS5.0 version of the application support folder and delete that instead).
I think I might have to put the folders back to who they were and look for what you suggested! sigh
I suspect you are now back to the default of exporting PDF (Interactive). Change the dropdown to PDF (Print), or use File > PDF Presets...
There is no drop down, it just makes the PDF with no options for anything
No "Type:" dropdown in the Export dialog asking where you want to save the PDF?
I get to choose PDF print rather than interactive, but then no other options box, it just does it.
I have replaced back the old folders now, so bk to square 1!! I will follow your instructions above and only replace the folders you say to and the hidden ones.....
Ok this time I replaced everything in the folder apart from plug-ins. I got the PDF dialogue box come up this time, but crashed again.
Do you know exactly when 2 files I need to replace? Or did I do them in above action?
Thanks again in advance
OK lets try again from the top. I don't know what folder you are talking about -- you shouldn't be anywhere near a folder that has plugins in it. You should ONLY be working in the hidden user library.
Look again at that list from John Hawkinson. Those are the folders and files that need to be removed from the "broken" user. After you remove them, reboot, then restart InDesign and they should all be rebuilt. If it still fails, remove the folders and files again, and this time replace them with copies of the same folders and files from the user library of the the working user.
Ok, done, followed and replaced.
I did notice in the new account there was not any other versions. In my old account I have version 5.0 and version 7.0, should I delete version 5.0 in the old account and see if that helps?
Did that - crashed as well!!
Launches mac out of window
Is it something to do with my user account?? My permissions?
Version 5.0 is CS3 and should not have any effect at all.
Did you replace both the InDesign Folders, AND delete the few files from John's list that are not in those folders?
I replace the en_GB folders in each with the new files.
Did not delete anything though, replaced with new.
You need to replace the entire Adobe InDesign folder (and the Adobe InDesign folder in the ~Library/Preferences folder, too). It is not enough to copy the content of the folder, you need to create a whole new folder in the damaged account.
You also need to delete the following:
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.InDesign.savedState
Ok I followed above and removed old folders and then dropped in the new folders from new account.
I also removed the items above you mentioned apart from...
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5
As they were not there :/
Just going to do a restart and load up IN
