I'm doing an edit in which we have the spaceship from space invaders, shooting down multiple jpeg images. I need to make the jpegs explode and the pixels of the image to fall off of the screen.
I've used the shatter effect, which seems to work perfectly if you image is taking up the entirety of the screen. However, because my images don't, the images seem to explode in the rectangular shape of the photo, and the pixels disappear as if the effect is cropping itself.
If anyone knows how to help it would be greatly appreciated
I take it that you have scaled your jpeg layers or that they are smaller than the comp size. If that is true you need to pre-compose the layer you want to shatter before applying the Shatter effect making sure that you move all attributes to the new comp. Then you apply shatter to the pre-comped layer and adjust the position of the force you are using to shatter the layer so you get the look you want.
A good rule to follow if you can't get things to work the way you expect: If in doubt - precompose moving all attributes.
