Do you have the Word file (and was the text edited after placing)? What version of ID are you using? What OS?
How were the images added?
Are you able to export the text to InDesign Tagged Text or RTF? (your text cursor must be active in the story for that option to be available, but don't select any text or you'll export only what is selected)
I have the Word file. The text was edited after importing as per the clients request. It also was a huge mess after initially importing it.
The images were brought in as part of the Word file within a chart. I added some images that were screen shots (tiff format)...perhaps those are too heavy?
I'm using Id CC and OS X Yosemite.
I see that it is possible to save to tagged text. What does this do? There are tag form options: verbose/ abbreviate and for encoding there are several options. What should I choose and will it save all my work or change things?
My guess is the embedded images from Word are part of the problem, and/or unresolved tracked changes. Tagged text should clean up the file, while preserving the current formatting, but it might eliminate the embedded imagery. The verbose/abbreviated choice won't matter here.
Go ahead and export the text, then place that exported tagged text into a new .indd doc that you set up to receive it and see it behaves. Don't' save over the old file -- you may need it for reference.
It seems to have worked!!! Thank you so much! What a relief!!!
