    Drop down menu disappears

    itsa37ford
Is there a method or a work around to alter Internet Explorer
to function the same way as other W3C Compliant browsers
      to correct this problem ?

I'm setting up a web site with Dreamweaver CS3, using Spry f
or a drop down menu with parent and child to multiple levels.
Dreamweaver automatically imported all necessary CSS, javascript and etc.

The menu is properly located at the left side of the screen and page for all
tested browsers - MS IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari. However, when the
mouse scrolls over the menu items that have multiple menu
drop down lists, IE places the sub items list in the middle
of the screen, away from the parent menu. The other browsers
that I test with operate as intended with drop down lists on the
left side beside the parent menu.

The HTML code passes the W3C.

Both CSS files (my custom one and the Spry imported one) pass the W3C.

How can I compensate for IEs weakness ?

Is there some work around code that will allow IE to operate as the other browsers do for this web site ?

Look for any align attributes and remove them. Also make sure that any
text-align declarations in your style sheet are on <a> selectors and never
on the root menu element or the menu UL elements.

OK! got rid of all the aligns and text-aligns. The page looks like crap. All still works fine with all my testing browsers except IE. The child drop menus are still popping up at center page/screen.
            Hmmm?

It's impossible to give a definitive answer without seeing your page. Hmm?

I would never use spry code, so if you cannot post a live example, well, it
could be anything - so you might as well move over the spry forum rather
              than the Dreamweaver forum..

If you want a less quircky browser in IE you might want to look at this project; http://code.google.com/p/ie7-js/ and use a CSS reset stylesheet.

And like Al Sparber said, with out seeing any code there is nearly no way for us to see what the issue is.

What Al didn't say is that his menus are *WAY* better than the Spry ones,
and they work right out of the box.

Thats a matter of opinion and I respected that. Spry Menu's also work out of the box and are also highly customizable and ITS FREE.

                      Hello,

Without seeing your code, this is a wild guess of course but...

If you highlighted text in the Spry menu, then used the text-align icon in the Properties window to align the text center, DW insterted divs into the menu which breaks it in IE.
If this is the case, go into code view and remove all the div and closing div tags.
If you wanted to align text center, add text-align:center; to the link CSS in the Spry CSS stylesheet.

                      Take care,
                      Tim
