Go to Layout > Ruler Guides > View Threshold. Change it to a desired value.
If you place the guide boxes on a non-printing layer, you can add a stroke to make them more visible.
Thank you for your reply but it hasn't solved the problem unfortunately.
When I zoom into the page, the dots of the box (no stroke or fill has been applied) disappear.
I have added a fill to the box but I would still like to find an actual resolution to this problem. Thank you for your help
If you scroll around the zoomed page, do you see the frames?

The first one was taken at 125% and the second was taken at 400%. As you can see the more zoomed in you are to the document, the dots of the box become lighter and start to fade away. I have to zoom in a lot as I need to make sure everything lines up, going past 400% the lines get lighter still, I have screen shooted this level to show you how it looks on screen
