I need to move several lines of metadata that has been added to thousands of JPEG preview files, back to the original RAW files they were originally made from. Any clever suggestions on how to do this the fastest and most convenient way in Lightroom? (The metadata can probably be retrieved in a .csv file if needed.)
A couple of ways of doing this:
- Import the JPEGs and the raws separately into the catalog, with the option Preferences > General > Treat JPEG Files Next To Raw Files As Separate Photos checked. Then use the Syncomatic plugin to copy the metadata from the JPEGs to the raws.
- Import the raws into the catalog, select them, and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File. Then use the free Exiftool to copy the desired metadata from the JPEGs to the raws. Then in LR, select the raws and do Metadata > Read Metadata From File. (This is essentially what the Syncomatic plugin does under the covers.)
