I have a very strange problem where metadata is not up to date on over 800 images in my library. I have a smart collection that detects non video files with metadata not up to date. If I pick one of these images and type Ctrl-s (Windows) the metadata shows as being up to data and then in a second or so reverts to metadata has been changed. This happens with both RAW and DNG files.
There is nothing running in the background that I am aware of that might be looking at these folders.
I'm using Lightroom CC 2015.1.1 on Windows 8.1. I have "Automatically write changes into XMP" unchecked, as I prefer to do it manually with Ctrl-s for performance reasons.
I may try switching this on temporarily to see if it resolves the problem.
Further to this post I checked the "Automatically write changes into XMP" box and this has resolved the problem. I still don't know why Crtl-s won't save the metadata permanently IE. Why does it flip back to changed after about 1 second?
Still interested in any solutions as I would prefer to keep the automatic option off.
Since LR 3, I'm not aware of any reports that Automatically Write Changes Into XMP affects performance noticeably.
However, there continue to be occasional reports that LR gets confused about metadata status. LR 4 fixed one of the more egregious bugs with metadata status, but every now and then someone reports flaky behavior.
Thanks for this. I guess I'll just leave the Automatic option switched on then
