From what you wrote, it would appear that you are in the Sceneline workspace of Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1.
Please see screenshot showing you how to delete the audio immediately after you had dragged it into the Filmstrip which had been marked "Drag next clip here"
Moving forward consider working in the Timeline workspace which gives you a better view of what is going on and thus gives you more control over the workflow. Please click on Timeline to take a look at how this audio presents in the Timeline workspace after what you did in the Sceneline workspace.
Please let us know if that worked for you to get rid of the unwanted audio in the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 Sceneline workspace.
Any questions or need clarification on the above, please ask.
Thank you so much. Appreciate your help
Thanks for the update with the good news that you deleted the audio that you wanted to delete in the Sceneline workspace of Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1.
If you have not already, consider updating 9.0 to 9.0.1 using the following Adobe link rather than the Help Menu/Updates within the opened project.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and to ask for clarification for your Premiere Elements workflows.
