    Layer troubleshooting

    lsb235
      Please help me!

      Murray helped me out with the centering of my layers on this page last week.
      http://www.blairsimmons.com.au

      I thought it was working beautifully & have viewed it on two different PC computers with IE6.
      The client tells me that when viewed on a MAC with IE? the following occurs:
      The layers are popping upwards (about 50 pixels) over the nav bar and I have confirmed this glitch by viewing in Firefox.

      This is a rough lesson to learn but I swear I will NEVER design another site without Firefox!

      Please help me wrangle these layers!!

      Thanks in advance
      Laini

          Sorry - you will have to put a "Stop Music" button there for me to help you.

          And frankly, the page is a mess. Have you tried validating it?

            The page is a mess because I don't know how to design using CSS.
            I'm a beginner.
            I've never heard of validating.

            If I take the music off can you help me solve the layer issue?

              Sorry couldn't paste this in the previous response, the forum can only
              take a limited amount of characters before it refuses the post:

              Copy ALL the code in the previous reponse, open a new Dreamweaver
              document, open code view and paste. Save document to your site folder as
              index2.htm (make sure you don't overwrite your existing page, just
              incase you want to go back to it, that why you should save it as index2.htm)

              The page as it stands is a wreck and to be honest I'm surprised it works
              in ANY browser. You had your js scripts mixed in with the css, There
              were numerous <body> tag and two Layer1 tags.

              The #wrapper css has been altered to this.

              #wrapper {
              text-align:left;
              width: 819px;
              margin: 0 auto;
              position:relative;

              }

              I've cleaned the code up to the point it now functions in Firefox, as
              you want.

              It still requires a lot of surgery underneath but if it works on the
              surface I'm sure youll be satisfied.

                  The code obviously exceeds the maximum amount of charaters in the web forum.

                  Let me have your email and I'll try to send it that way.

                      Just out of curiosity....
                      I tried another approach to the design today to try to avoid using layers all together.
                      I used the swap image behaviour on my nav-bar and it works perfectly in Firefox & also in my preview IE browser.
                      When I loaded it onto the web it works until you open another browser window such as the "contact" page. After that the swap image behaviours do nothing and the nav-bar images don't work either.
                      Can you see why?
                      The new design is here

                      thankyou!!

                        Never used the swap iamge behaviour on the nav-bar so I'm not really the
                        one to ask. I wouldn't know what it was.

                        I tend to do most of my coding by hand these days.

                          Oh boy - nearly 11.30pm here and that music just about woke up the whole
                          house... tried to find a 'close down music' button but couldn't - I'd fix
                          that. A lot of people don't like a sudden blast of unexpected music coming
                          from their speakers.....

                          Using IE, going to another page from your index page, you are right, the
                          mouseovers don't work. You have a javascript error:
                          Lin57 Char1 Oject expected.... I'd look at your javascript, or try and redo
                          the behaviours again... there's something missing.

                          Rather than using the navbar thingy in DW, why not use the standard
                          show/hide images instead. I dont' have time to check your code, but this
                          should give you an idea of where to look for the error. PS: Remove all
                          behaviours first, make sure there is no js left on the page and then reapply
                          the behaviours.

                            My ESP tells me that line 57 is the body tag, and that the page is trying to
                            preload something without the supporting js on the page. That is likely
                            also the reason that the rollovers are failing (missing the rollover js).

                            > Remove all
                            > behaviours first

                            > reapply the behaviours.

                            Not really necessary - just select a trigger, edit the behavior by double
                            clicking on the behavior's name in the behaviors panel, and then make no
                            change - just click OK. That'll force DW to write the js to the head again.

                              well.... didn't want any leftover js code in the head of the doc to cause
