Indesign Damaged Files and Program Crashing Issues

I updated my Indesign to the latest version yesterday and right afterwards I created a file. About an hour or so into creating the 2 page document, the program froze and then crashed. I tried to re-open the file and it said "file may be damaged..." I clicked "ok" to continue to open anyway, and it crashed again. Each time I try to open the file, Indesign crashes. I re-started my computer and tried again, and it did the same thing. This morning, I moved on to a new document and created a separate file and the same thing happened: the program froze, crashed, and now that file is also damaged. How can I remedy this? And how can I resurrect those damaged files?
