Adobe does not announce in advance when this type of support will be provided.
However, as of this writing, there are no Sony cameras that can tether to Lightroom, so I suspect supporting tethering in this Sony camera is not something Adobe is planning to do.
Thanks for your reply. What is the best route to request this feature from Adobe? I know a boat load of professionals who have been moving to Sony from Canon/Nikon.
The first step is to contact Sony and verify that their SDK supports tethering from third party applications. If it doesn't, Lightroom will not ever be supporting it.
I went through the same process with Capture One in June of 2014. After contacting Sony asking about a 3rd party SDK they responded positively. Here was their response:
"Thank you for contacting Sony Support.
I understand that you want to use Capture One Pro 7 and Adobe Lightroom 5 to tether with your A7R camera.
As of this time, the camera can only be controlled while connected on a computer using our Remote Camera Control software. I will forward your concern to our engineering team for review so they may consider an update for the software that you want to use on the camera.
Thank you for understanding.

Capture One released Sony tethering support only a few months later. It would appear there is a 3rd party SDK if Adobe wants to implement the feature.
As of this time, the camera can only be controlled while connected on a computer using our Remote Camera Control software.
If the Sony software allows tethered support for this camera then you could tether with the Sony software and use a "Watched Folder" in Lightroom to automatically load the photos. My Canon 5Dclassic is no longer supported by Canon SDK and Lightroom for tether so I use Apple Image Capture for tether and a watched folder when I want to use the good ole antique 5D and it works well.
If a BOATLOAD of professionals are using Sony than Sony should be creating a professional SDK for Adobe and Capture One to use for tether support.
This forum is a user-to-user forum in which Adobe rarely participates. Please add your opinion and vote to this topic in the official Adobe feedback forum, where Adobe does promise to read everything and often participates: Lightroom: Add Tethered Support for Sony cameras.
Also, see my recent post about Sony's camera SDK, which appears to support wireless still image capture for more than two dozen cameras, including many in the Alpha, NEX, and RX series: Lightroom: Add Tethered Support for Sony cameras.
Thanks John, I've added my feedback at that link.
I know this response is somewhat belated and a solution has probably already been found.
When I purchased my first Sony a6000 I received the Sony version of Capture One for €50.
Capture One was originally designed for the rich guys and gals with those wonderful cameras like Phase One X, Hasselblad etc. Perhaps one day??????
After discovering what Capture One was capable of I immediately purchased the Pro version adapted for Sony.
Even with the Pro version tethering would not work with my camera. I tried many different configurations but to no avail. Then by chance I changed the USB connection on the camera to "PC Remote". Eureka! It worked! Note, if the usb connection is set to "auto" it will not work. However, yes there always seems to be a "but" in the equation.
Via Capture One you can control the camera with the laptop* and or desktop computer*. Now here comes the "but", whilst one has full control over the camera settings a live view is NOT possible. For some obscure reason this is not supported for Sony.
A live view can be achieved using the HDMI output on the camera to a separate monitor. A bit cumbersome I know but it is a solution.
The photos taken, either by remote from the computer or when one operates the camera directly are transferred directly to the Mac* or MacBook Pro*.
Have a great day

I work with Mac so I cannot offer any advice on the windows platform.
PS, almost forgot. I still cannot tether with LR (CC).
If you had read the rest of this thread, you'd know this is the wrong forum for your "feature request". Placing these comments here doesn't help, placing there where "feature requests" should go might help.
