Here's a recommendation -- use AE CC 2014 for this. You may have much bbetter results. You can backsave your work to date to an AE CC 2014 project file, so you won't lose anything.
Yes I am using that version and have been auto saving. Not losing anything but just need to figure out a way to reverse dissolve into an object. Instead of the object/layer dissolving to particles.

The latest version of Particular will not run even if you pre-compose it. You'll have to render and replace then timeremap. It's a bit of a pain, but that's how it goes. Make sure you use a good production codec with an alpha or render an image sequence. Make sure you set the color to Straight Alpha.
